Effective Advocacy for Trial Prosecutors

This highly-interactive trial advocacy course is designed for new and relatively inexperienced full-time misdemeanor and felony prosecutors. Presentations will cover how to pick a jury, do an opening statement, admit physical evidence, conduct direct and cross examination, and argue closing. Particular emphasis will be placed on DUI and DV issues, including dealing with expert witnesses. In breakout sessions, attendees will practice their trial skills under the guidance of an experienced prosecutor. The week-long course will culminate with a mock jury trial.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY?

 

Only full-time prosecutors from APAAC Member Offices are eligible to apply for this training. There is no registration fee for prosecutors from APAAC Member Offices.

Due to the nature of the course, the class size is small and fills up quickly.

TRAVEL ASSISTANCE

 

APAAC will provide hotel accommodation, including parking, at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Phoenix Downtown North to prosecutors traveling from APAAC Member Offices located outside of Maricopa County who request a room when registering, for five hotel nights, from Sunday, September 13, 2026, to Friday, September 18, 2026. Hotel room and tax will be billed directly to APAAC.

Attendees who request a hotel room and do not cancel by August 24, 2026, will be responsible for any fees charged by the hotel.

 

Attendees traveling from APAAC Member Offices located outside of Maricopa County are eligible for reimbursement of meals not provided by APAAC at State Government per diem rates and mileage at 67 cents per mile.
