Back by popular demand, APAAC and GOHS are hosting the Prosecuting the Drug-Impaired Driver Conference, February 28 – March 3, 2022.

Prosecuting the drug-impaired driver can be some of the most interesting and challenging impaired driving cases we face. Depending on the substance, drug impairment can look very different than alcohol impairment. Accordingly, if a DUI prosecutor does not know what to look for and how to explain it to a jury, the task of prosecuting these cases can be much more difficult than it should be.

The Prosecuting the Drug-Impaired Driver Conference is designed to assist prosecutors in evaluating and prosecuting these unique cases. Experienced DRE officer instructors, prosecutors and crime lab personnel will educate on how to recognize the unique symptoms of impairment for the various drug categories, as well as impairment by multiple drugs. Instruction on how to prepare and present these cases in court will be provided. Agenda topics will include, but are not limited to:

  • The First Six Drug Categories
  • Cannabis/Marijuana the Seventh Drug Category
  • Poly Drug Use
  • The Standardized 12 Steps and DRE Equipment
  • Reviewing a DRE Case and the DRE Face Sheet
  • The New Voir Dire and Juror Questionnaires
  • Trying the Marijuana Drug DUI Case From Start to Finish
  • Trying a DUI Drug Case Without a DRE
  • Prescription Drug DUI Cases
  • Case Examples – with and without a DRE
  • Recent Drug Trends
  • Toxicology
  • Hot Topics
  • Motions in Limine
  • Cross-Examination of Defense Experts
  • Cross-Examination of Defendants and Defense Doctors
  • Jury Instructions
  • Ask the Experts Round Table
  • And Much More!
