Law enforcement officers, prosecutors, and prosecution office-based victim advocates are invited to this one-day seminar focusing on the October 1, 2017, mass shooting at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas which killed 58 people. We will begin with survivors sharing their experience at the concert which quickly turned deadly. Las Vegas law enforcement will then address mass fatality preparedness and the roles of medicolegal offices during a mass fatality incident; specifically, the structure of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the Clark County Medical Examiner/Coroner’s Office. Through the lens of responding law enforcement, understand the dynamics of the 1 October shooting, and how the shooter planned and carried out his mission. Finally, learn how Pima County Attorney Office victim advocates provided support and services to survivors of the mass shooting. Join us for a candid discussion of the challenges with multiple deployment areas for law enforcement officials in responding to a mass fatality, scene response and preservation, administrative response, media and local politics, the Family Assistance Center, and the resiliency and wellness efforts for those involved. Registration is free and lunch will be provided. Prosecutors and victim advocates attending from APAAC Member Offices outside Maricopa County are eligible for state government per diem rates and roundtrip mileage at 62.5 cents per mile. APAAC is not able to provide travel expense funding to law enforcement attending the training.
