Home Events 2017 Fundamentals of Trial Advocacy

This highly-interactive trial advocacy course is designed for new and relatively experienced full-time misdemeanor and felony prosecutors.  Presentations will cover how to pick a jury, do an opening statement, admit physical evidence, conduct direct and cross examination, and argue closing.  Particular emphasis will be placed on DUI and DV issues, including dealing with expert witnesses.  In breakout sessions, attendees will practice their trial skills under the guidance of an experienced prosecutor.  The week-long course will culminate with a mock jury trial.

Due to the nature of the course, the class size is small, and fills up quickly.  If you wait to apply, you may miss out!  Online registration is mandatory and is open to all full-time prosecutors.  Registration priority will be given to prosecutors from Arizona state, county, and city offices.  Space-permitting, federal and tribal prosecutors may also attend.

The seminar will begin with coffee and sign-in at 8:00 a.m. and the lecture starting promptly at 8:15 a.m. on Monday, April 3, 2017.  Space is limited so you should apply as soon as possible.

Please note that federal and tribal prosecutors are responsible for their own travel-related expenses (including hotel).

APAAC will provide hotel accommodations for state, county and city prosecutors traveling from outside of Maricopa County. Upon your request (you will be asked when you register), APAAC will reserve you a hotel room for the night of April 2, 2017, and have the hotel room and tax charges billed directly to APAAC.  Please note that the hotel will require that you provide a credit card upon check-in for any incidental charges. The hotel has a 48 hour cancellation policy, so you must inform APAAC by e-mail no later than 4:00 p.m. on March 31, 2017, that you would like to cancel your reservation, or you will be responsible for paying the cancellation fee of $133.00 plus tax.

State, county, and city prosecutors from outside of Maricopa County are also eligible for reimbursement for mileage and meals up to the per diem amount. Please click on the link below for specific reimbursement amounts.

APAAC is not able to validate for parking, however there are several park and ride facilities throughout the valley, for more information, please visit:

.  You can of course choose to park in any of the public parking garages at your own expense as well.
